APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED UNTIL JUNE 30, 2024

The Franklin Street Arts Collective (FRANK Gallery) will accept applications for a one-year emerging-artist position. The unpaid position will run from September 2024 to August 2025. The artist must reside in the Triangle area during the year.

The position will provide the selected artist with the benefits of a FRANK membership. These include exhibition opportunities in the gallery, mentorship from professional artists, and unrivaled access to the professional arts community in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area and the Triangle.

“Our Emerging Artist Program gives promising young artists a unique opportunity to hone their artistic skills and learn the business behind art while being supported by a group of creative and professional local artists,” says Natalie Knox, the gallery director.

The emerging artist will be expected to fulfill the duties of a member artist, which include: working in the gallery and serving on gallery committees.

The artist will be selected primarily on the strength of his or her artwork. The position will last for one year.  Applicants must be from 20 to 35 years old. Individuals from groups underrepresented in visual arts organizations are encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.

Here is what Austin Cathey said after his 2018 apprenticeship
“Although my art education at UNCA was crucial for me, being at FRANK has allowed me to learn so many essential aspects about being a professional practicing artist involved with a gallery. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at FRANK for being so welcoming, helpful and supportive. I especially enjoyed my time as a member of the hanging committee, as it’s immensely rewarding to help put a group exhibition together. In a few weeks I will be starting the Master of Fine Arts program at Miami University in Ohio. I have no doubt that FRANK was instrumental in elevating my art to another level, thus helping me to get into such a program.”
