ARTIST STATEMENT
Woodland forests, creeks, trees, rivers, ocean waves, meadows flourishing with wildlife: these shelters of life translate easily for the content I feel that is happening in our own social worlds. My paintings are like diary entries; some reflecting the energy of the present day, while others represent a mood that simmers over our lives for longer periods of time.
My nature scene portrayals are mindfully expressive and loaded with exaggerated colors of rich, textured, layers of oil paint built up to a lush, buttery, impasto surface. I prefer to employ a large “toolbox” of painting utensils which allow me the flexibility to respond to a certain “feeling,” or a parallel found between art and life.
Nature is home, filled with more connections than my paintbrush could ever portray. But it feels good to know that there is still much room for exploration.
