SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit Sep/Nov 2023
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Barbara Tyroler\, Dan Gottlieb and guest artist Daniel Johnston. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Tyroler\n\n\n\nBarbara Tyroler\, a multi-talented professional portrait photographer\, artist\, college-level educator\, and dedicated community advocate.  Her recent collection of tree photography exudes a captivating blend of technical prowess and artistic sensibility.  \n\n\n\nWith a keen eye for detail and a unique artistic perspective\, Barbara’s work transcends traditional photography\, transforming trees into mesmerizing subjects that evoke emotion and connection with the natural world. Her portfolio showcases a blend of creative portrait consignments\, one-on-one photo tutorials\, and small group workshops\, making her not only a skilled photographer but also a passionate educator who shares her expertise with others. Through her lens\, Barbara Tyroler invites us to appreciate the sublime elegance of trees and the power of visual storytelling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDan Gottlieb\n\n\n\nDan Gottlieb’s photography is a mesmerizing fusion of innovation and craftsmanship. His proprietary process\, a meticulously designed blend of non-traditional materials and painstaking effort\, breathes life into his images. By subjecting long camera exposures to a digital reversal and then printing them on clear acrylic panels\, Dan creates ethereal visuals that seem to transcend the boundaries of traditional photography. His dedication to achieving luminosity is evident through the application of foundational paint layers behind the image\, followed by meticulous hand-polishing with fine compounds. In his “SWAMP” series\, Dan draws inspiration from North Carolina’s evocative lowland ecosystems\, capturing their haunting beauty and fragility. This body of work\, stemming from his residency at The Peanut Factory in Edenton\, is a testament to Dan’s unique vision and artistic innovation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Johnston\n\n\n\nDaniel Johnston\, a prominent North Carolina-based potter with a national presence\, is celebrated for his remarkable craftsmanship in creating large-scale pottery. With a deep-rooted connection to the rich traditions of ceramics in his home state\, Daniel’s work transcends conventional boundaries. His creations are a testament to his mastery of form\, marrying functionality with artistic expression. Through his skillful hands\, he transforms clay into stunning\, monumental vessels that not only serve as utilitarian pieces but also as captivating works of art. Daniel Johnston’s pottery stands as a testament to his enduring dedication to the craft and his ability to capture the essence of North Carolina’s pottery heritage on a grand scale.

SUMMARY:iPhone Advanced Workshop with Bryce Lankard
DESCRIPTION:Contact: Bryce Lankard bryce@clickphotofest.org 917-204-8165 \n\n\n\nThe Omnipresent Camera\, an advanced Smartphone workshop. The new millennium has put a quality camera in nearly everyone’s pocket in the form of a smartphone. The camera phone and an application or two are powerful and creative tools. Students will learn a few tips and tricks that can make their creative voice sing with this little device. This workshop will review basic camera phone controls\, some filmmaking and photography tips and basic editing tips. We will also do a deeper dive into a couple of post-production applications\, like 8mm\, Hipstamatic and Instagram\, that can take images to the next level. Students should bring images previously taken and please bring your camera/phone and ideally your laptop to upload images. It is strongly recommended that students download other Photography editing applications (my preferred app is HIpstamatic). \n\n\n\nBryce Lankard has made images in the south as a documentary photographer for 35 years. He was a co-founder and creative director of Tribe Magazine\, co-founder of the New Orleans Photo Alliance\, co-founder / executive director of the Click! Photography Festival\, and an instructor at the Center for Documentary Studies. Exhibitions have featured work created with an iPhone. His current project\, Drawn to Water\, appeared in Southern Cultures. Bryce’s solo exhibition venues include Flanders Gallery in Raleigh\, NC and the Southeast Center for Photography in Greenville\, SC. His work was recently featured in Across County Lines\, Contemporary Photography from the Piedmont at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.

SUMMARY:FRANK Opening Reception & 2nd Friday
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: Dan Gottlieb and Barbara Tyroler with Red Nucleus Band Performance. \n\n\n\nDan Gottlieb’s SWAMP features a suite of pictures inspired by explorations of eastern North Carolina’s hauntingly beautiful cypress swamps\, mill ponds\, and creeks – and their fragile ecologies. Dan combines his life decades as an artist\, museum designer\, and environmental activist using a laborious experimental process of his own design. \n\n\n\nGarden Journeys\, A Portrait Photographer Explores the Landscape showcases the work of professional photographer and educator\, Barbara Tyroler. Primarily an environmental portrait artist and editorial commercial photographer\, Barbara first began rendering the natural landscape while meandering through the local hiking trails with students\, friends\, and family during the early seasons of our Covid pandemic. The abstracted imagery emerged as shaggy and snarly forms\, colors\, and textures and blossomed into a broader appreciation for the complex interconnectedness and social networking at play. \n\n\n\nDaniel Johnston is a prominent North Carolina-based potter with a national presence who is widely celebrated for his remarkable craftsmanship in creating large-scale pottery. \n\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Tyroler\, Night Neighbors 2\, from The Garden Journey\, photograph

This year ‘s event will be hybrid\, meaning we’ll offer a limited amount of in-person art and companion tickets\, and some online virtual tickets! In-person guests will enjoy delicious food and an open bar. Online guests have the same chance to select art off the wall\, but from the comfort of their home. There are more than 70 pieces of donated art (from our generous artists!) all valued at more than the price of a ticket! We invite you to see all the artwork ahead time in two ways\, in-gallery or online. Visit the gallery the week before the Gala to see all the donated art hanging.
