SUMMARY:Jean Michel Dissake
DESCRIPTION:Sculptural Works\n\n\n\nSpecial exhibition lecture and short-film viewing on March 13 > LEARN MORE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCameroonian artist Jean Michel Dissake’s sculptural works use found and recycled materials to represent a balance between nature and technology by weaving natural objects such as wood\, vines\, termite dust\, water hyacinths\, and palm fronds together with computer boards\, aluminum wire\, license plates\, and car parts. These objects that embody energy from people around the world are sewn together with wire to celebrate diversity\, restore souls and bring unity. \n\n\n\nInformed by his cultural heritage as well as wisdom gained from living for nine years in a forest on the Mungo River\, Dissake’s work invokes a dialogue on ecological and spiritual matters and speaks to timely issues of unity\, love\, and oneness with nature. Dissake asserts that “everything is linked” and seeks\, through his art\, to heal the Tree of Life. \n\n\n\nThese works are selections from a recent exhibit at the Gregg Museum of Art and Design called BABENGA: The Sacred Forest. The Gregg exhibit was co-curated by Marriott Sheldon\, a Raleigh artist and guest artist at FRANK Gallery\, and Roger Manley\, former director of the Gregg Museum. \n\n\n\nBabenga refers both to the village where Dissake’s grandfather was the local king for over fifty years as well as the idea of the continuity of humans – a ceremonial invocation of a future land and new spirituality where humans and nature thrive. Dissake’s understanding and deep respect for the natural world imbue the works with symbolism that serves as a wakeup call to realize our interdependence with nature. \n\n\n\nDissake is recognized as a visionary artist\, philosopher and activist. He recently represented Cameroon with works exhibited in the 2024 Venice Biennale\, the world’s most prestigious art exposition. Jean Michel Dissake’s works were exhibited at the 2024 Dakar Biennale and included in many exhibitions in Europe. It is an honor to exhibit and offer Dissake’s works for sale here at FRANK Gallery\, considering he is on the verge of becoming very well known internationally. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFROM THE EXHIBITION

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit Feb/Mar 2025
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring member artists Luna Lee Ray and Peg Bachenheimer\, and guest artists Karli Pendergraft and William Moore. \n\n\n\nAlso on exhibit is a special selection of works by Cameroon artist Jean Michel Dissake. \n\n\n\nOpening reception is on Feb. 21 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLuna Lee Ray\n\n\n\nTake a close look at the deep complexity of Luna’s layered mixed media surfaces. Then step back and let the mood and mystery of these abstract works reveal a truth in nature that cannot be conveyed through realism. Luna is inspired by the forms and processes of the natural world: cells and pods and clouds\, wind and light and mist and rain. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeg Bachenheimer\n\n\n\nAn intuitive painter\, Peg starts thinking about color and feeling. She brings back memories of places she’s been\, music she hears\, and her experiences of place – especially in nature. The rich and vibrant applications of encaustic paint in Peg’s exhibited work explores the lush beauty of the garden. A colorful reminder that spring is on its way. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKarli Pendergraft\n\n\n\nKarli’s organic sculptures seem to reach out and return on themselves — showing the interconnectedness of life\, from the unseen networks beneath the earth to the vast\, ever-changing rivers and oceans. The recent hurricane that devastated western North Carolina\, where Karli lives and works\, impacted all aspects of her world. It was a stark reminder of the power and fragility of nature.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWilliam Moore\n\n\n\nThese wonderful works by William show how he pushes his materials of clay\, glass and metals to their extreme. The resulting colors and textures are sublime. Shown internationally\, William Moore’s work graces private and public collections\, which locally include Duke University Chapel\, Progress Energy headquarters\, SAS Corporation\, Glaxco Wellcome and the City Cary. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJean Michel Dissake\n\n\n\nCameroonian artist Jean Michel Dissake’s sculptural works use found and recycled materials to represent a balance between nature and technology. He recently participated in this year’s Venice Biennale\, the world’s most prestigious art expo. It’s an honor to have Dissake’s work available here at FRANK Gallery\, considering he is on the verge of becoming very well known internationally. \n\n\n\n> LEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit Jan/Feb 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we ring in the new year with featured artists Gordon Jameson\, Ley Killeya\, and guest furniture maker Pete Rodrigues. \n\n\n\nOpening Reception January 17\, 6-9 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordon Jameson\n\n\n\nAn established abstract painter\, Gordon relies on strong color and compositions of unique shapes. Much of his work’s narrative references western interpretations of Christian imagery\, primarily the Annunciation and Enthroned Madonna. And so the figure emerges in Gordon’s paintings\, shifting his works slightly away from complete abstraction.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLey Killeya\n\n\n\nLey uses acrylic paint\, ink\, and gold metallic leaf to create her abstract figurative paintings. She focuses on the use of line and composition to represent parts of the body\, adding unexpected dashes of color to break the surface and disturb expectations. Elements of gold leaf indicate the value we and others place on them. Her work helps us consider how our bodies\, and the perceptions of them\, confer power\, limit rights\, exercise control\, and interrogate identity.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPete Rodrigues\n\n\n\nPete crafts his fine furniture with a focus on both function and natural beauty. And within each piece of wood he sees similarities to human faults in the material’s cracks\, twist\, bows and rough cut edges. However\, when worked by the master craftsman\, the wood can be turned into something beautiful.

SUMMARY:Talk: Sacred Dimensions
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Divine Form & Resonance in Indian Spiritual Science\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us in FRANK for a talk by guest speaker\, owner of Muses Card Shop\, Abhi Sivadas. This talk explores the profound spiritual science embedded in Indian art\, sculpture\, and architecture\, where form\, symbolism\, and geometry converge as pathways to elevate our consciousness. In Indian tradition\, art is a sacred practicenot only an aesthetic endeavor but a transformative one that bridges the earthly and the divine. Through carefully crafted proportions\, intentional geometry\, and cosmic resonance\, ancient Indian art becomes a language of the Atman (inner self ). \n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, we will uncover the wisdom passed down by the ancient sages\, focusing on three core aspects foundational to Indian spiritual science in art and architecture: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. The Grammar and Language of Divine FormsIndian sacred art and architecture are deeply symbolic\, using intricate geometries and sacred symbols to convey spiritual meanings. Each curve\, line\, and form has purpose\, designed to connect us to the cosmos and awaken our Atman\, the inner Self. Through this lens\, we’ll explore the language of divine forms and how their careful design shapes our interaction with the higher realms. \n\n\n\n2. Understanding Proportions for Divine FormsAt the heart of divine  Art \, architecture and sculpture lies sacred mathematical precision. These proportions are more than visual guidelines; they are rooted in cosmic alignment\, bringing the structures and forms into resonance with universal order. By following these proportions\, ancient artisans created sculptures and temples that do not simply represent divinity but embody its vibration\, inviting viewers to experience a harmony that uplifts the spirit. \n\n\n\n3. Creating a Healing Space with Cosmic VibrationsBeyond their visual beauty\, Indian temples and divine sculptures are built to emit healing vibrations. Crafted through intentional spatial arrangements and spiritual geometry\, these spaces cultivate peace\, balance\, and inspiration. This segment will explore how spiritual architecture and sculpture are designed to resonate with transformative energies\, elevating the viewer’s experience to one of profound peace and interconnectedness. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nAbhi Sivadas is the owner of My Muses Card Shop in Carrboro\, and a passionate creator of sanctuary spaces that resonate with divine harmony. Born into a family of temple builders in South India\, Abhi has dedicated the past decade to studying with master builders and temple architects in India. His research focuses on ancient power centers and the effects of sacred architecture and alignment on our energy field and heart space. \n\n\n\nSpecializing in the Vedic building manuals of ancient India\, Abhi uses this codified knowledge of frequency and resonance to design and align vibrant spaces\, homes\, and communities that promote well-being. Alongside his work in architecture\, Abhi is an artist who shares his knowledge with other enthusiasts through workshops\, seminars\, and hands-on experimentation\, inspiring others to explore the intersection of art\, spirituality\, and sacred design.

SUMMARY:Off the Wall Gala 2024
DESCRIPTION:FRANK’s signature fundraising event is well-known for its excitement\, spectacular selection of art\, and community roots. Join us at 6 pm on October 26 for our 14th Gala supporting FRANK Gallery’s mission to enrich our community through art. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAttend in-gallery or from home\n\n\n\nThe Gala will be held in the gallery as well as broadcast live via Zoom for attendees who want to enjoy art and a tasty cheese box in the comfort of their home. For guests attending in person\, a full bar\, heavy hors d’oeuvres and light snacks will be provided. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does it work?\n\n\n\nWith the purchase of an Art Ticket\, your name is entered into a pool with other art ticket holders. During the gala\, the names of art ticket holders will be drawn at random (this is the fun part!) and read out loud by our emcee\, local radio personality\, Aaron Keck. Once called\, you’ll have one minute to choose your favorite piece of art “off the wall” to take home. It gets exciting as you never know what piece will go next! This event will be hybrid\, meaning we’ll offer a limited amount of in-person art and companion tickets\, and some online virtual tickets! In-person guests will enjoy delicious food and an open bar. Online guests have the same chance to select art off the wall\, but from the comfort of their home. \n\n\n\nThere will be plenty of donated art (from our generous artists!) all valued at more than the price of a ticket! We invite you to see all the artwork ahead time in two ways\, in-gallery or online. Visit the gallery the week before the Gala to see all the donated art hanging. Also\, preview the works here as they are donated. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCAN’T ATTEND THE GALA? \n\n\n\nPlease donate to FRANK’s Francine Pilloff Community Outreach and Education Program\n\n\n\n\nDONATION OPTIONS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSILENT AUCTION\n\n\n\nBid on more than 80 amazing items\, including art\, local experiences\, restaurant gift cards and much more. \n\n\n\n\nSTART BIDDING\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVIRTUAL ACCESS\n\n\n\nFor Virtual Gala ticket holders only. \n\n\n\nGet Zoom ready: If you don’t have Zoom installed on your device\, go to https://zoom.us to download the Zoom app. \n\n\n\nCheck in from 6 pm to 6:30 pm on Saturday\, go to https://ncsu.zoom.us/my/brandfortner \n\n\n\nClick on “Join with video”  \n\n\n\nPlease orient yourself with the features and layout of Zoom\, and use “chat” to ask us questions during the event\, Feel free to call us at the gallery if you have questions before the event.   \n\n\n\nDuring the Gala\, Keep yourself muted. His photos are presented in the manner of 8th century Chinese ink paintings depicting this most special place. Bill uses his expert eye in capturing the landscape\, always finding interesting textures\, engaging compositions and dreamy atmospherics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSusan Finer\n\n\n\nFor Susan\, beauty is found in the imperfections of rough tree bark\, plush moss\, peeling paint and rusted metal. You can find this wondrous splendor in what she calls her “tactile memories.” Her intuitive abstract fiber art constructs a diverse terrain stitch by stitch\, knot by knot\, and layer by layer. She creates worlds where organic and linear\, chaotic and ordered come together\, where ragged rips\, untidy snippets\, and messy protrusions meet up with orderly lines and grids.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKarli Pendergraft\n\n\n\nPendergraft has spent much of her life immersed in the natural world\, drawing inspiration from its intricate patterns and subtle energies. She uses clay to translate her observations into tangible forms. She draws inspiration from diverse natural phenomena such as mycelium networks\, branching root systems\, oceanic life\, and cellular structures. Her art gives you a space for reflection and wonder\, encouraging a deeper appreciation of the delicate and profound rhythms of nature. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoe Grant\n\n\n\nJoe is the Glass Director for Starworks. In his “Gossamers” series\, Joe blows the glass extremely thin\, stretching the colors until they begin to fall apart. Balanced between refined form and a loss of control\, these works celebrate the joys of color and the transformative qualities of glass to look and feel like fabric and textiles. Joe also collaborates with metalsmith Mac Metz to make abstracted glass flowers that transition carefully to the graceful lines of their stainless steel stems.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMac Metz\n\n\n\nDirector of the metal studio at Starworks\, Mac works primarily with metal\, stone\, glass and wood to create work that conveys allegorical references to past events and specific scientific principles. Looking at his work\, you see the push and pull of materials: soft wood next to cold steel and transparent glass paired with solid stone. His beautiful sculptures have been exhibited in Estonia\, Finland and Japan\, and we are very excited to see this work at FRANK. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTakuro Shibata\n\n\n\nSince becoming the director of Starworks Ceramics\, Takuro started researching local clays. His work beautifully presents the transformation of wild clay — untouched and raw\, with kilns fired with wood from local sawmills and the surrounding land. These magical ceramic pieces appear to grow and move\, echoing the capriciousness of the natural world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarguerite Jay Gignoux\n\n\n\nMarguerite’s stitched canvases hold small and large marks with layers of textile ink coloring lengths of linen. This sturdy cloth holds the history of her French-American family. Dropping in a few sweeping and crooked stitched lines suggests a setting; a garden\, a dwelling\, a path. These minimal shapes and washes of color invite you into Marguerite’s idyllic world.
