SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit July-August 2025
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artist R. Scott Horner\, emerging artist in residence Lucas Bernard\, and guest artists Chris Boerner\, Paul Reamey\, and Kerry Schroeder. \n\n\n\nThe gallery also features a group landscape show\, “SCAPES”. \n\n\n\nOpening Reception on July 11\, 2025. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLucas Bernard\n\n\n\nAs an oil painter\, Lucas’ motivation to create stems from a desire to engage more intimately with the world around him. By spending hours closely observing an object\, person\, plant\, or landscape\, Lucas is able to build a personal connection to both his subject and the physical art he creates. Through this process\, Lucas aims to highlight aspects of life that may seem insignificant or overlooked\, inviting a deeper appreciation of the mundane. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Boerner\n\n\n\nChris Boerner is an artistic woodturner\, specializing in creating beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork from a variety of rare and unusual wood. Basically self-taught\, Chris enjoys creating intricately and technically advanced artistic pieces. He searches for unusual wood from downed trees with dynamic color and grain which may have burls\, holes\, or bark inclusions. Though these characteristics add to the difficulty and danger turning the wood\, it increases Chris’ excitement and determination to create a piece that is truly unique. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nR. Scott Horner\n\n\n\nIn this exhibit\, Scott is visualizing the many echos of self found in the things we create and the enduring actions that leave behind traces of our being. Our selves echo in the digital world\, too. Giant data centers build virtual selves by assembling our online activities. Through repetition of key shapes\, and creation of container-like forms\, Scott explores the concept of self-related artifacts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPaul Reamey\n\n\n\nPaul is an artist and industrial designer currently working in glass\, wood\, and stone. He’s drawn to these materials both by the puzzle of joining them together and by a simple fascination of how they continue to interact in a finished piece. There’s something about the fragility of cold glass\, the heaviness of stone and the soft\, approachable nature of wood that makes coupling these materials particularly compelling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKerry Schroeder\n\n\n\nKerry Schroeder’s work is a metaphor for the search for answers in a world where they feel both close at hand and impossibly distant. She turns to nature as her visual language—layered\, ever-changing\, and complex\, much like life itself. She considers her work expressionistic\, blending gestural brushstrokes and spontaneous marks with representational forms\, existing in the space between the tangible and the abstract. Her process is a constant push and pull—allowing what wants to emerge\, working with what appears\, and letting go of what doesn’t belong.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit August-September 2025
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Shelly Hehenberger\, Karen Day\, Natalie Boorman\, Mary Lee Kerr and guest artist Alan Dehmer. \n\n\n\nOpening Reception on August 22\, 2025. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlan Dehmer\n\n\n\nAlan Dehmer’s work uses the gum bichromate printing process. Embracing both photography and printmaking this process leverages image making as time transforms layers of each piece. The end work carries an archetypal quality\, like something from an old memory or a dream one can’t quite remember. \n\n\n\nAlan Dehmer is a founding member of the FRANK Gallery\, a published author\, and a guest lecturer at NC State University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKaren Day\n\n\n\nMuch of Karen’s work is rooted in a kind of personal excavation – visual and emotional. She thinks of her paintings as artifacts of an interior world\, shaped by her dreamings of time and memory. Instead of something static or sealed\, she imagines reliquaries in motion: shifting forms dissolving\, evolving and reforming. \n\n\n\nShe builds layers of texture early on\, then continues adding – sometimes scraping or masking areas to create visual moments of clarity\, opacity\, and depth. Her interest is in what is revealed\, what remains hidden\, and how meaning can live in the spaces between. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Lee Kerr\n\n\n\nFor 40 years\, Mary Lee Kerr has studied and created clay sculptures\, gradually mastering the technical aspects of the medium and constantly searching for the best way to express her ideas.  \n\n\n\nRecently her larger work has focused on protection–of herself\, her family and her community–and warding off the dangers of a threatening world. These figures are protected by shells\, spines and claws\, or hold talismans to ward off evil. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatalie Boorman\n\n\n\nNatalie Boorman has worked with clay for the past 40 years.  Using the “Pinch Pot” method is meditative for her\, allowing her to relax with the clay\, interact with it\, forming a relationship which is not always consciously developed.  \n\n\n\nHer finishing process includes burnishing\, bisque firing the vessels in an electric kiln and then either fire them in a pit or a raku kiln\, both variations of what’s known as smoke firing.  Smoke firings are unpredictable\, spontaneous and intriguing. Not for anyone needing a sense of control! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShelly Hehenberger\n\n\n\nShelly’s recent work is inspired by the quiet but always industrious processes of regeneration at work in the earth around and below our feet. Sometimes slowly\, sometimes with remarkable speed\, forces break apart one form of life to make another\, like a child assembling her blocks to build a form that is at once demolished to make another\, and another. Her art process reflects this means of invention as her surfaces are composed of elements carved from other compositions and then reconstructed\, creating a snapshot of life mid-leap from one embodiment to the next.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit September-November 2025
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Barbara Tyroler and Donna Stubbs\, and guest artists Tama Hochbaum\, Wyatt Speight Rhue and Carmen Elliott. \n\n\n\nOpening Reception on October 10\, 2025. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Tyroler\n\n\n\nBarbara’s practice embraces dual nature—photography’s grounding in reality and its capacity for transformation. She explores how the camera can reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary\, how technical choices can shift meaning\, and how the act of selection itself becomes a form of interpretation. Her work explores the tension between documentation and expression\, between the world as it appears and as it might be understood. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarmen Elliot\n\n\n\nCarmen creates terra cotta sculpture and pottery for home and garden. She is particularly interested in making forms that are expressive\, and that may evoke a sense of mystery or humor\, the fragile or the wild\, or a kind of renewal that can unfold between maker\, viewer\, and the thing created. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDonna Stubbs\n\n\n\nDonna’s paintings emerge from an exploration of color\, materials\, and line. Through repeated layering of drawn marks\, organic shapes\, and shifting tones\, she creates compositions that carry both rhythm and movement. Her work builds abstract spaces that invite close looking\, offering viewers layered narratives of memory\, intuition\, and discovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTama Hochbaum\n\n\n\nTama Hochbaum creates photo-art that internally alludes to drawing and painting sensibilities\, which she layers and aligns with photographic processes. This body of work uses a combination of photography and drawing and pulls beauty and joy from the artist’s garden\, an Arcadian site of inspiration and pleasure. Tama works to make a final image that exists as if it were assembled from remembered scenes; an image that presents as if it were composed from manifold bits and layers over many hours at an easel. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWyatt Speight Rhue\n\n\n\nWyatt designs\, builds\, and sculpts furniture in his studio in eastern North Carolina. His practice explores traditional modern forms while embracing playful and unexpected uses of materials and construction methods. For his body of work\, Wyatt presents a collection of bowls and vessels turned on the lathe\, as well as side tables carved\, turned\, and sculpted directly from logs. These works highlight his dialogue with raw wood — where natural shapes and irregularities become guides for form rather than obstacles to overcome.

SUMMARY:Off the Wall Gala 2025
DESCRIPTION:FRANK’s signature fundraising event is well-known for its excitement\, spectacular selection of art\, and community roots. Join us at 6 pm on October 18 for our 15th Gala supporting FRANK Gallery’s mission to enrich our community through art. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAttend in-gallery or from home\n\n\n\nThe Gala will be held in the gallery as well as broadcast live via Zoom for attendees who want to enjoy art and a tasty cheese box in the comfort of their home. For guests attending in person\, a full bar\, heavy hors d’oeuvres and light snacks will be provided. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow does it work?\n\n\n\nWith the purchase of an Art Ticket\, your name is entered into a pool with other art ticket holders. During the gala\, the names of art ticket holders will be drawn at random (this is the fun part!) and read out loud by our emcee\, local radio personality\, Aaron Keck. Once called\, you’ll have one minute to choose your favorite piece of art “off the wall” to take home. It gets exciting as you never know what piece will go next! This event will be hybrid\, meaning we’ll offer a limited amount of in-person art and companion tickets\, and some online virtual tickets! In-person guests will enjoy delicious food and an open bar. Online guests have the same chance to select art off the wall\, but from the comfort of their home. \n\n\n\nThere will be plenty of donated art (from our generous artists!) all valued at more than the price of a ticket! We invite you to see all the artwork ahead time in two ways\, in-gallery or online. Visit the gallery the week before the Gala to see all the donated art hanging. Also\, preview the works here as they are donated. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSilent Auction Now On\n\n\n\nBid on amazing items\, including art\, local experiences\, restaurant gift cards and much more. SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit January-February 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Bill McAllister\, Carroll Lassiter\, and Ley Killeya. \n\n\n\nOpening reception is on January 9\, 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBill McAllister\n\n\n\nThis series features photographs from Bill’s 2009 trip to Siem Reap\, Cambodia\, which was one of the most memorable and productive photographic experiences of his life. Using infrared and pinhole cameras\, Bill captured images of 13th-century temples\, among other subjects. This group of photographs includes a mix of the historical architecture\, landscape\, and the people who inhabit this amazing country. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarroll Lassiter\n\n\n\nThe landscapes Carroll paints are places where she feels most alive\, and many are tied to family roots in eastern North Carolina. She remembers creek fishing trips — first with her father and later with her son — as hours of contentment with bursts of excitement thrown in. Carroll’s oil paintings convey the physical and emotional essences of these specific places. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLey Killeya\n\n\n\nAcross cultures and traditions\, the songbird carries symbolic meaning. In Ley’s new paintings\, the songbird symbolizes her deeply felt connection with her sons\, who fill her with unending joy\, happiness\, and optimism. The limited primary palette in this collection closely ties the pieces together\, weaving them with threads of color that speak to and support one another\, representing the complex interpersonal fabric of our lives. The titles of individual pieces are drawn from poems and song lyrics.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit February-April 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Luna Lee Ray and Gordon Jameson\, as well as guest artist Ronan Peterson. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on February 27\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLuna Lee Ray\n\n\n\nWater is Life. In this body of mixed media work\, Luna has drawn inspiration from her longstanding love of water in all of its forms: rain\, ocean\, river\, and mist. Her newest pieces call to mind the play of light through moisture in the air and the smell of the ground when dampened. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordon Jameson\n\n\n\nGordon’s work is informed by divergent sources\, from the cult imagery of the Virgin Mary to multi-thousand-year-old Native American pictographs\, to current events and early Renaissance art. Through these sources\, he engages his paintings in a conversation that is intuitive\, cathartic\, and serendipitous. Gordon’s acrylic paintings develop over time\, sometimes months or years\, like a garden\, always alive and changing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRonan Peterson\n\n\n\nUsing red earthenware clay\, Ronan layers slips\, terra sigillatas\, and glazes\, with wax resist patterning\, to create highly decorated earthenware vessels. While his ceramics start with a functional basis\, they feature cartoon representations of compositions you might find lying on the forest floor\, crawling across the bottom of the ocean\, or hovering in space over the surface of a gas giant planet. Ronan hopes viewers and users get a sense that his pots could just slither away if they avert their gaze for too long.
