SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit June-August 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Natalie Boorman and Nerys Levy\, as well as FRANK Emerging Artist Lah Boh and our Youth Art Group. \n\n\n\nWe are also featuring a group landscape show\, our Second Annual Scapes Exhibit. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on July 10\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNerys Levy\n\n\n\nNerys is a plein air artist who has traveled extensively documenting Earth’s landscapes. Her largest bodies of work focus on the Polar regions\, Italy\, and Great Britain\, particularly Wales. This exhibition features two elements of Nerys’ British series: the Cardiff Bay series and the Crowhurst\, Surrey series. The Crowhurst paintings were executed on site using mixed media watercolor on paper. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatalie Boorman\n\n\n\nFor ceramicist Natalie\, who’s been around sheep most of her life\, sheep have a calming influence and remind her that humans aren’t the only species on earth. Working alongside the FRANK Youth Art Group for the past few months\, Natalie has created imaginative ceramic sheep\, glazed and fired in her raku kiln. This show also features Natalie’s traditional pinch pot forms fired with the “naked raku” method. This special kind of raku firing is “naked” because the glaze pops off at the end of the firing\, and what’s left is a clay slip\, sometimes stained blue.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLah Boh\n\n\n\nBP’s 2010 oil spill was the largest in human history. In this series of oil paintings\, FRANK Emerging Artist Lah focuses on the environmental impacts of such disasters. His work explores the quiet\, suffocating violence that pollution inflicts on the natural world. By combining that theme with surrealism\, Lah aims to expose the unvarnished reality of our ecological footprint\, transforming abstract environmental statistics into visceral landscapes of neglect. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYouth Art Group\n\n\n\nFourteen years ago\, FRANK Gallery formed the Karen Youth Art Group to support newly arrived refugee students. Now called the FRANK Youth Art Group\, most of its students are still from the Karen Community\, and the program continues to provide educational enrichment to and serve as artistic inspiration for the students. The current cohort has students between 9 and 20 years old. To date\, the program has worked with close to 200 students\, many of whom have gone on to further and higher education as a result of this educational enrichment program.

SUMMARY:Recognition: Contemporary Lumbee Art
DESCRIPTION:This special exhibition is in honor and celebration of the Lumbee people becoming the 575th federally recognized Tribe. Our featured artists include Karina McMillan\, Christopher Kennedy\, James D Malcolm\, Jesalyn Keziah\, and Ariana Chavis. \n\n\n\nThis showcase will be on view alongside our Featured Artists Exhibit from August 18 through September 26. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on August 21\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKarina McMillan\n\n\n\nKarina’s work explores identity\, memory\, and cultural continuity through the lens of her experience as a Lumbee artist. Through drawing\, printmaking\, painting\, and mixed media\, she creates visual narratives that reflect the connections between personal history\, Indigenous heritage\, and the stories carried across generations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristopher Kennedy\n\n\n\nOver the years\, Christopher has worked in oils\, graphite\, and colored pencil mediums. This show\, celebrating the recognition of the Lumbee people\, has allowed Christopher to revisit memories that helped shape him as a man and artist. His featured art offers glimpses into those memories. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJames D Malcolm\n\n\n\nJames is inspired by the unique pattern of the Longleaf Pinecone\, which serves as the insignia of his tribe\, the Lumbee. His work explores the creative possibilities of foldable materials\, especially silk ties. James primarily designs and creates Longleaf Patchwork for Regalia worn by girls and young women competing in annual Lumbee Pageants. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJesalyn Keziah\n\n\n\nAs an Indigenous artist\, Jesalyn is drawn to clay for the naturally grounding and centering practice of working directly with the soil of the earth. Her pottery and other art frequently feature native plants\, animals\, symbolism\, and stories from the natural world as an exploration of these relationships. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAriana Chavis\n\n\n\nIn her paintings\, Ariana crafts a narrative of Indigenous resilience symbolized by corn and feathers. Used for survival and in spiritual traditions\, these objects impacted generations of her ancestors\, and Ariana explores that legacy in her work.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit August-September 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artist R. Scott Horner\, FRANK Emerging Artist Julia Nagle\, and guest artist Ivana Beck. \n\n\n\nWe are also featuring an exhibition of Contemporary Lumbee Art in recognition of the Lumbee people becoming the 575th federally recognized Tribe. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on August 21\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nR. Scott Horner\n\n\n\nScott’s new series of abstract paintings urges us to find the human form in seemingly random sets of shapes\, lines\, and values. He isn’t representing the body\, but reacting to it. This work focuses on bodies at rest to eliminate as much context as possible — beyond the body itself. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJulia Nagle\n\n\n\nWhen viewed from a unique vantage point\, everyday vistas can feel alien. In her new series of oil paintings\, FRANK Emerging Artist Julia Nagle highlights this mystic beauty. Inspired by photos taken while traveling\, her atmospheric paintings depict terrain from around the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIvana Beck\n\n\n\nThrough her sculptures and drawings\, Ivana portrays the resilience\, flexibility\, and adaptability passed down by the women in her family over generations. Materials that she continues to use — brick\, wax\, and mortar — remind her that what is strong and durable can also be vulnerable and ephemeral.

SUMMARY:FRANK:inFocus 2026
DESCRIPTION:FRANK:inFocus showcases the work of artists\, educators\, and photographers who use the lens as a stimulus for creating meaningful imagery in their professional practices. This year\, our featured artists are Tim Duffy\, Bettina Molina\, Jo Ann Tomaselli\, and Wojtek Wojdynski. \n\n\n\nThis showcase will be on view alongside our Featured Artists Exhibit from September 29 through November 14. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on October 9\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTim Duffy\n\n\n\nTim Duffy is a renowned photographer and folklorist who has documented traditional artists in the South for nearly five decades. He and his wife Denise founded Music Maker Foundation in 1994 to assist roots musicians in need and preserve American musical traditions. \n\n\n\nTim creates one-of-a-kind direct positive tintype portraits of American artists\, musicians who are the living expression of our nation’s cultural legacy yet remain little known. Shot with a large format camera using a tintype process that dates back to the nineteenth century\, Tim’s masterful photographs celebrate these creators\, custodians\, purveyors\, and performers of American music. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBettina Molina\n\n\n\nBettina’s series documents the everyday lives of women in India\, from the quiet concentration of daily labor to the shared rituals of tea that welcome a stranger into the home. It is not travel photography\, but a study of hospitality\, resilience\, and the dignity found in ordinary work and connection between women. \n\n\n\nBettina is a Colombian documentary photographer based in Chapel Hill\, North Carolina\, trained at EFTI in Madrid\, whose work explores culture\, identity\, and the human experience. Her practice spans documentary\, commercial\, and portrait photography\, with a recurring focus on women\, ritual\, and everyday resilience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJo Ann Tomaselli\n\n\n\nA visit with the Suri in Ethiopia introduced Jo Ann to women untouched by modernity\, living in deep connection with their ceremonial traditions and heritage. These portraits invite you into their secluded world — resilient\, beautiful\, profoundly human and full of grace. \n\n\n\n“Defining myself as a particular type of photographer is not possible as every moment behind the lens offers an opportunity to share images of the people\, cultures and landscapes that touch me deeply. My inspiration? Color\, shape\, design and the most delightful factor of all ~ fun!” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWojtek Wojdynski\n\n\n\nWojtek is a fine art photographer based in Chapel Hill. His work celebrates the beauty and emotion found in everyday life\, with a special focus on people\, inviting the viewer to slow down\, reflect\, and discover the beauty and meaning with fresh eyes. \n\n\n\nWojtek’s work offers a glimpse into the lives of women in the streets of Havana\, Cuba. Through moments of work\, resilience\, and everyday life\, these photographs celebrate the strength\, dignity\, and spirit of the women who shape the city’s vibrant rhythm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFRANK:inFocus is a project of the FRANK Gallery Community Outreach program\, offering innovative and inclusive art and photography events\, while forming partnerships among a diverse population of artists and our neighbors. We thank the UBS Bank for supporting FRANK:inFocus 2026.
