SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit January-February 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Bill McAllister\, Carroll Lassiter\, and Ley Killeya. \n\n\n\nOpening reception is on January 9\, 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBill McAllister\n\n\n\nThis series features photographs from Bill’s 2009 trip to Siem Reap\, Cambodia\, which was one of the most memorable and productive photographic experiences of his life. Using infrared and pinhole cameras\, Bill captured images of 13th-century temples\, among other subjects. This group of photographs includes a mix of the historical architecture\, landscape\, and the people who inhabit this amazing country. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarroll Lassiter\n\n\n\nThe landscapes Carroll paints are places where she feels most alive\, and many are tied to family roots in eastern North Carolina. She remembers creek fishing trips — first with her father and later with her son — as hours of contentment with bursts of excitement thrown in. Carroll’s oil paintings convey the physical and emotional essences of these specific places. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLey Killeya\n\n\n\nAcross cultures and traditions\, the songbird carries symbolic meaning. In Ley’s new paintings\, the songbird symbolizes her deeply felt connection with her sons\, who fill her with unending joy\, happiness\, and optimism. The limited primary palette in this collection closely ties the pieces together\, weaving them with threads of color that speak to and support one another\, representing the complex interpersonal fabric of our lives. The titles of individual pieces are drawn from poems and song lyrics.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit February-April 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Luna Lee Ray and Gordon Jameson\, as well as guest artist Ronan Peterson. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on February 27\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLuna Lee Ray\n\n\n\nWater is Life. In this body of mixed media work\, Luna has drawn inspiration from her longstanding love of water in all of its forms: rain\, ocean\, river\, and mist. Her newest pieces call to mind the play of light through moisture in the air and the smell of the ground when dampened. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordon Jameson\n\n\n\nGordon’s work is informed by divergent sources\, from the cult imagery of the Virgin Mary to multi-thousand-year-old Native American pictographs\, to current events and early Renaissance art. Through these sources\, he engages his paintings in a conversation that is intuitive\, cathartic\, and serendipitous. Gordon’s acrylic paintings develop over time\, sometimes months or years\, like a garden\, always alive and changing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRonan Peterson\n\n\n\nUsing red earthenware clay\, Ronan layers slips\, terra sigillatas\, and glazes\, with wax resist patterning\, to create highly decorated earthenware vessels. While his ceramics start with a functional basis\, they feature cartoon representations of compositions you might find lying on the forest floor\, crawling across the bottom of the ocean\, or hovering in space over the surface of a gas giant planet. Ronan hopes viewers and users get a sense that his pots could just slither away if they avert their gaze for too long.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit April-May 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is proud to feature the work of member artists Amy Deystone\, Susan Finer\, and Susan Paulsen\, as well as guest artists Jane Filer\, Selden Lamoureux\, and Gadisse Lee. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on April 10\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSusan Paulsen\n\n\n\nJoe Paquet urged artists to “paint the Grand Canyon in your own backyard\,” and Susan has taken this advice to heart with her oil paintings. The animals\, fields\, and farms of Orange County are some of her favorite subjects. Susan’s second passion is still life painting\, which allows her to freely explore color\, composition\, and viewpoint. Every material offers a challenge and an opportunity to explore the quality of light. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSusan Finer\n\n\n\nResponding to visual and tactile memories\, Susan constructs abstract terrains on fabric\, mark by mark\, stitch by stitch\, and layer by layer. She draws\, paints\, and sews — by hand and machine — on material that she finds\, buys\, or creates herself by sewing together scavenged scraps. In Susan’s work\, ragged rips and untidy snippets interact with orderly lines and grids. These encounters reflect her fascination with the connections and disconnections between chaos and order\, and natural and built environments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmy Deystone\n\n\n\nThis collection of ceramic work gives voice to Amy’s complicated process of grieving the passing of her abusive father. It is a part of her ancestral healing path\, exposing what has long been hidden\, tending to her inner child\, and offering her what no one else could. These ceramics lean into Amy’s interest in the human emotional experience and how our ideas\, thoughts\, and feelings take up space and bubble out into the world. Amy hopes the resonance of these vessels reaches your inner landscape and helps you to feel more deeply. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJane Filer\n\n\n\nJane believes the vehicle to a higher plateau in human consciousness is understanding that infinite\, unfathomable realities exist. This knowledge helps her approach painting with wonder and discovery\, allowing her work to speak to her. It can tell her new kinds of stories and take her to other places. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGadisse Lee\n\n\n\nWith an emphasis on solace\, isolation\, and experimentation\, Gadisse bases her fine art photography on life experiences she’s had and how she chooses to resolve them. Self-portraiture is her lifelong project because it is Gadisse’s way of connecting with her inner child\, and she hopes it connects with others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelden Lamoureux\n\n\n\nWith a background in archaeology\, Selden is drawn to objects that seem both ancient and outside of time. Her handcrafted pottery reflects influences from the ancient Dead Sea Scroll jars to contemporary paintings and fellow North Carolina potters. Above all\, Selden tries to stay focused and honest while working\, because that is what becomes embedded in the clay.

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit May-June 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Peg Bachenheimer\, Elijah Kell\, and Carol Retsch-Bogart\, as well as guest artists Sasha Bakaric and Clarke Munford. \n\nOpening reception on May 22nd from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nCarol Retsch-Bogart\n\nCarol’s artistic curiosity has led her into printmaking\, silk-screening\, encaustic wax\, and painting. But it is her love of collage that is most apparent in her work. For this exhibition\, Carol has combined textiles\, prints\, inks\, paint\, and more. To provide some structure (and a challenge)\, she has limited herself to working on nine vertical panels that evoke totems. \n\n\n \n\n\nPeg Bachenheimer\n\nAn intuitive\, nature-inspired artist\, Peg paints with encaustic\, oil and cold wax\, and acrylic. Building up and scraping back many layers of color and texture\, she works on a painting until it feels complete and expresses what she sees and feels. With her latest series\, Peg attempts to bring some light into the world at this chaotic and dark time in our country. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nElijah KellKELL GLASS\n\nElijah creates intricate glass sculptures that capture light\, color\, and movement — balancing fragility with strength. He crafts and fires each piece meticulously\, transforming flat sheets of glass into fluid\, sculptural forms. Elijah first worked with glass art at the age of ten\, and that experience sparked a deep connection that has since defined his artistic journey and career. \n\nVisit KellGlassArt.com to learn more. \n\n\n \n\n\nClarke Munford\n\nWorking with oil paint and drawing from archival black-and-white photographs\, Clarke depicts the unforgiving nature of early agricultural life in North Carolina. Following his last series of monochromatic underpaintings\, Clarke’s current work features full-palette imaginings of obscure historical scenes. This collection investigates the degree to which modern agriculture has departed from the practices of a century ago. \n\n\n\nReference Image Courtesy of the State Archives of North Carolina \n\n \n\n\n\nSasha Bakaric\n\nInspired by the vibrant colors of tropical oceans and lush vegetation\, Sasha’s newest collection of ceramics highlights the beauty of nature in a world that has felt dark and heavy to her for some time. Working with white stoneware clay coated with colored terra sigillatas\, Sasha uses slip trailing\, sgraffito\, and a mix of commercial and custom glazes to build intricate surfaces. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n

SUMMARY:Featured Artists Exhibit June-August 2026
DESCRIPTION:The gallery is featuring the work of member artists Natalie Boorman and Nerys Levy\, as well as FRANK Emerging Artist Lah Boh and our Youth Art Group. \n\n\n\nWe are also featuring a group landscape show\, our Second Annual Scapes Exhibit. \n\n\n\nOpening reception on July 10\, 2026 from 6 to 9 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNerys Levy\n\n\n\nNerys is a plein air artist who has traveled extensively documenting Earth’s landscapes. Her largest bodies of work focus on the Polar regions\, Italy\, and Great Britain\, particularly Wales. This exhibition features two elements of Nerys’ British series: the Cardiff Bay series and the Crowhurst\, Surrey series. The Crowhurst paintings were executed on site using mixed media watercolor on paper. Archival prints of her Cardiff Bay sketchbook will also be on display. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatalie Boorman\n\n\n\nFor ceramicist Natalie\, who’s been around sheep most of her life\, sheep have a calming influence and remind her that humans aren’t the only species on earth. Working alongside the FRANK Youth Art Group for the past few months\, Natalie has created imaginative ceramic sheep\, glazed and fired in her raku kiln. This show also features Natalie’s traditional pinch pot forms fired with the “naked raku” method. This special kind of raku firing is “naked” because the glaze pops off at the end of the firing\, and what’s left is a clay slip\, sometimes stained blue.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLah Boh\n\n\n\nBP’s 2010 oil spill was the largest in human history. In this series of oil paintings\, FRANK Emerging Artist Lah focuses on the environmental impacts of such disasters. His work explores the quiet\, suffocating violence that pollution inflicts on the natural world. By combining that theme with surrealism\, Lah aims to expose the unvarnished reality of our ecological footprint\, transforming abstract environmental statistics into visceral landscapes of neglect. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYouth Art Group\n\n\n\nFourteen years ago\, FRANK Gallery formed the Karen Youth Art Group to support newly arrived refugee students. Now called the FRANK Youth Art Group\, most of its students are still from the Karen Community\, and the program continues to provide educational enrichment to and serve as artistic inspiration for the students. The current cohort has students between 9 and 20 years old. To date\, the program has worked with close to 200 students\, many of whom have gone on to further and higher education as a result of this educational enrichment program.
