Hello and welcome!

Welcome to another edition of "From the desk", this time featuring a blast from the past (2013) in the art world that may come as news to some. Last summer, Japan's Contemporary Museum of Art hosted an interactive haunted art museum, in which children could distort various classic paintings and emerge with a different perspective on how art museums function.

In today's "From the desk" posting, we explore desserts with modern art influences -- specifically a Piet Mondrian cake served at a certain modern art museum that is taking the art world by storm. We invite you to share your own experiences with art-themed baking in the comments, or on Twitter @FrankGallery1.

Social networking and digital art

Today's "From the desk" will focus on the way that social networking influences our interpretations of artwork. As you may have noticed in the thumbnail image, Vincent Van Gogh's famous "Starry Night" is given a new dimension by Korean pixel artist Jaebum Joo. His interpretation of Van Gogh's art has upwards of 1,500 likes and reblogs on Tumblr.com, as well as 923 views and counting on Behance.net, the host site of his digital portfolio.
