Time: 9:40 – 11:30am, capacity will be limited
Teacher: Carroll Lassiter
Location:  Irvin Nature Preserve & Farm (2912B Jones Ferry Road, Chapel Hill, NC, 27516)
We will investigate some tools for drawing in the landscape: Small quick sketches, or gesture drawing; Using a grid for  framing and scaling drawings; Exploring the gray scale ; A longer look for a more developed drawing. Materials provided.

Light and shade, turning a form in still life. In this session, each person would bring an object and Sudie will provide a strong light source. We will set up a still life with a direct light source and draw from it. We will work with reflected light and how to turn a form.

Drapery. In this session, Sudie will set up a drape and will do shading techniques, from lights to mid-tones to dark.

In this session we will set up a still life on a draped piece of fabric. Sudie will provide a direct light source and the class will work on shading techniques, reflected light and turning of form. Get ready to draw, enjoy and add to your travel journal!

In this session we will create small collages in our travel journals inspired by any piece of artwork on display in the gallery. I will provide a diverse array of my own hand-painted textures and patterns on paper to work with. The class is concurrent with a Dec-Jan exhibit of my large-scale abstract paintings at Frank Gallery. Student only need to bring their sketch book journals.

Please check the box for each workshop you would like to attend. The cost of each session is $20. You may sign up for any number and combination, and add on additional sessions at a later date, pending available space.

A set of supplies (journal, pencils, erasers, etc.) will be provided for new registrants on your first workshop day. Directions, alternate weather sites, and any other necessary information will be sent via email to the participants for that class. Dress accordingly, some sites will require a short walk to reach the drawing destination.

All funds raised from these workshops support this program, and FRANK Gallery, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
