Katherine Armacost

Artist's Statement

My work is informed by nature, history, architecture, dreams, just about everything I come in contact with. It speaks to my past and the future, and is always about change. I don't have a fixed idea when I start; I make decisions, change my mind, and create a dialogue with the painting. I like to bring together fast and slow, the quickly brushed and the tediously suffered over. My goal is to keep the work alive and express an idea or feeling, maybe one I can't put into words but keeps revealing itself over time.

Katherine Armacost has been showing her work since 1987 in solo and group shows in North Carolina, New York and San.Francisco. She has received an Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Art's Council, first place awards from Jurors Joan Snyder and Willie Cole, and merit awards from jurors Dore Ashton, Sarah Faunce, Charles Hinman and John Wu. She is represented locally at Frank Gallery and Light: Art and Design. Her paintings are in public and private collections in the United States, Canada and Europe.
