“The drawings begin with inspiration from the natural world but I never plan my drawings. I simply let the pencil rest and watch what starts to emerge. The subjects often seem inside out, inverted; veins and flesh appear with seeds and fur, flora becomes fauna. My drawings question perceptions of beauty and reality as the natural world is twisted curiously against itself -- things that are easily considered “beautiful,” are superimposed and juxtaposed against things not so facile, not so easily interpreted or assimilated. Every drawing is a series of discoveries and I hope the viewer is called to look closer and make discoveries as well.”
