Ippy Patterson lives in Hillsborough with her husband, Neil. 20 some years ago she moved to North Carolina from Connecticut, where she had been illustrator of a garden column for the New York Times. She has continued rendering natural forms in ink and pencil and watercolor, working from life and drawing to scale.

In addition to illustrating many books on plants (Montrose, Life In a Garden, gold award for illustration Garden Writers of America, Essence of Paradise, GWA Award), insects (No Bones, New York Academy of Science Award), she does charcoal line drawings of nudes as well as intricate ink drawings of imaginary monsters (Elizabethan Bestiary Retold, AIGA award). She is presently at work writing and illustrating her Boogyman Memoirs.
