FRANK Gallery located on Franklin Street downtown Chapel Hill was established in 2010 by the Franklin Street Arts Collective a non-profit organization. The Gallery is a showcase for contemporary art by established local & regional artists, a gathering place for art lovers to enjoy the public events featuring demonstrations, talks & performances.

Position Title: Gallery Intern

Location: FRANK Gallery, Chapel Hill, NC

FRANK is seeking a gallery intern to assist with daily operations, exhibition planning, development and event planning. This position will offer the right candidate a well-rounded experience in gallery management and non-profit operations.

Description of Position:
Our packed spring schedule will lend a great deal of experience to our intern. One of the major functions of this internship will be to assist with sales and the retail aspect of the gallery; inclusion in the financial management of FRANK can also be arranged based on the needs and interest of the candidate. The retail side includes making sales, connecting and fostering relationships with the clients and artists, learning the basics of fine art as a commodity, general marketing tasks, tracking and logging inventory, etc.

In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to work on our spring exhibitions. Each exhibition is planned largely by committee, with assistance from the gallery manager. Our intern will be invited to join these committees and assist with various aspects of exhibition planning based on interest and need. This may include working with the committees to manage the planning, marketing, and installation for these shows. Each show is also partnered with several community events which we will also encourage him/her to take part in.

The third function of this position will be to assist with our 4th Annual Off The Wall Gala, in April 2014. This major event is a ticketed, auction style gala that serves as our major fundraiser for the year. All members of the gallery and board participate in some aspect of planning. Our intern will be required to work with the marketing and ticketing committee, in addition to working with a committee of their choice.

The ideal candidate will have some knowledge in the following areas:

Some background or understanding of working in a retail environment
Knowledge of social media and online media – marketing and e-commerce a plus
Willingness to learn basic web development
Experience in using all major functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Other desirable skills include:

Basic understanding of a variety of art styles and processes 
Basic design and Photoshop skills
Exceptional writing skills
Some knowledge of non-profit development
Experience with Microsoft Access

All projects mentioned will be under the supervision of, and working closely with the FRANK Gallery Manager.
