Transplanting Traditions and More... Opening Reception

In May and June, the Michael and Laura Brader-Araje Community Outreach Gallery will be dedicated to a wonderful and talented group of young artists that have become a much loved part of FRANK. The Karen Youth Art Group was established by FRANK Gallery in November 2013 to foster and embrace the artistic talents of young Karen (Burmese) refugees living in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, North Carolina. This will be their third exhibition at FRANK and will include images from their soon to be launched illustrated children’s bilingual book, Karen and English, about Transplanting Traditions Community Farm where many of their families are engaged in farming. For this reason the images to be exhibited from this book are highly personal while also documenting the farm’s story and seasonal activities. This exhibition will also include other assorted works including some engaging double exposure images which the students have been working on with one of the Group’s many artist/ teachers. The Karen Youth Art Group will be hosting a launch party for their book and to present their latest work on June 2, 6-8PM at FRANK.
