Barbara Tyroler

Barbara TyrolerCertainly my imagery is about beauty, but it’s also about the excitement that erupts when disequilibrium and ambiguity interact with the formal qualities of light, reflection, and tonality, when human form becomes bits and pieces of color.

My work is about people, relationships, and community. I am a lens-based artist, working with light, reflection, and refraction. I use the camera to examine and explore human interactivity, the computer to give voice to this experience, thick rag paper to provide a tactile representation in the form of visual gift-giving.

My current projects focus on partially abstracted figurative imagery. These environmental portraits emphasize family, relationships, and given that their origins are photographic, issues of identity.
