My paintings explore internal and external spaces. The work is an act of journaling, a place where I render my experiences. The landscapes are oddly curious, existing between realism and fantasy. Text appears as suggestions as well as scars and bands of color often reinforce the artifice of the landscape. Perception, as part light, part shadow, trigger recollections that become foreground-sometimes staring us in the face, leaving and emerging, resonating within and outside us. I am informing myself, to see this land for what it is, both guideposts and warnings. The figures, while rooted in realism, are not traditional portraiture. They are stand-ins for the psych-the interior made legible. It is my intention that these paintings of real people and strange places confront, momentarily, your relationships to words, feelings, personalities, familiar colors and forgotten spaces.
