Madelyn Smoak

I started making beaded jewelry in 2000, quickly got bored and took my first metals class in 2002. My original idea was to made centerpieces for the beaded work, but the metal just grabbed me HARD! I learned to fabricate with silver, brass and copper. The crowns came into being in 2005, inspired by a collection of tintypes of really miserable-looking Victorian children. I had already been using found objects for my jewelry. At present I am working on a series of found-object pieces, using mostly de- and re-constructed vintage straight razors although "Relic of the Great Cicada Wars" a helmet headpiece is my most recently finished piece.
