Jo Anne Rose

Jo Anne RoseI primarily work in the watercolor medium, although I have experimented in etching, silk-screen, pastels and most painting mediums. I keep returning, however, to watercolor because of it’s light producing qualities and ability to capture the changing moods in landscapes. Currently I am doing both watercolors and oils paintings.

I can now qualify as a senior citizen and have lived in Chapel Hill, N. C.over thirty years. Most of my early years were spent in Ohio where I graduated from Denison University, a liberal arts college. Subsequently I studied art at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the University of N.C. at Chapel Hill. I have been an established artist in many galleries in N.C, as well as other states since 1983. During the 80’s and 90’s I spent a lot of time and energy entering local and national shows. Today I prefer to use my time painting what I see from my travels and spend more time savoring the process. I am also learning to improvise from my sketches with a graphic art tool on my computer.

To me, my art is an expression of my daily life and will always be a means of communication for me. Having people respond to my images is not only rewarding, but means I have succeeded in expressing my emotions about a subject. I feel my art reflects my personality and my optimistic viewpoint of the world.
